We're going to New York next month... good thing we're on Singapore Air. Kahit economy class, we have individual monitors for movies, TV shows, music, games, etc..

But still, i don't like checking-in my laptop. I prefer to carry it. And I do want my book and my notebook to write on.

When would all this madnes end?

@emily- must be a tense situation

@Jayvee- the technology gets more sophisticated so that's one reason these are banned as well

@eric- it takes 2 inert liquid substances to make an explosive so they are not taking chances. I hope the airplanes supply the passengers with books, magazines, movies to compensate.

I was never enamored with air travel despite the alluded glamour (hardly saw any of it). Since 9/11, would only do it with first class tickets thanks to my accumulated free miles. Now I read in NY Times that even water bottles are not allowed; that one woman was told by airport security personnel to trash all her Chanel cosmetics if she wanted to board the plane. But then again it's all being done for the safety and security of the pasengers. But I can imagine how even more boring it would be to take a transcontinental flight if you're not allowed to bring along pocket books, laptop, discman and etc. All those wasted hours of just sitting there. Now I pray harder each night that nothing happens to any member of my family in the States that would require my presence.

"I presume laptops, PDA’s and the like are not allowed too. The no-carry-on policy is going to make flights long and boring."

I think one of the topics airport security should consider being educated on is how not to be scared of technology. A lot of OEMs make portable devices precisely for airport trips.

This negates the whole thing.
