I promised Marielle that I would get her the Harry Potter Book 7 ( Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ) at 7:00 AM on July 21, 2007 which is the same opening time as UK’s midnight release. The problem was I didn’t reserve the book. See, I never reserved Book 5 and Book 6 and still managed to get a copy on Opening day at the National Bookstore Katipunan Branch. I never believed in getting a reservation because I will get a copy of the book anyway. The thing is Marielle wanted to get a copy by 7:00 AM even if I have to summon my “bitch” (assertive) powers. I never use my “bitch powers” if there are rules in place. I don’t think I can get a copy at that time without any reservation.

Dine comes to the rescue. While I was at the mediation yesterday afternoon, she offered to reserve a copy for me. Isn’t she sweet?

What a teamwork Dine and I are! And what moms do for the love of their daughters? Even if it means waking up at 6:00 A.M.

I arrived at National Bookstore Katipunan branch near Ateneo at around 6:30 AM. Dine was nowhere in sight. No problem, I will queue for her.

Oh for the love of our kids, we’d do anything for them. My daughter managed to get the book in less than 20 minutes after Opening Time. Well she didn’t get it exactly 7:00 AM but we were there at 7:00 AM.

What joy!

Of course, I can’t go home empty handed. I got an empty Harry Potter Book 7 box for posterity.

that was indeed a strategy! am glad we were able to get the books on the time (at least within 30 minutes) our dear daughters wanted them–i guess they will remember this gesture for the rest of their lives. monica says she has waited 10 years for the last book.

i bet–marielle is also holed up reading the book. as of last visit to her room, monica was on page 20, digesting every piece of the book.

BA took a look at the last few pages, only after promising monica that he won’t talk.

  2. Noemi says:

@SexyMom- M is now in her room. Too bad she has colds. but maybe reading the book gives her a chance to rest.

  3. Belle says:

my daughter’s copy is being held in the post office for delivery tomorrow, july 21st. she ordered it online.

i can’t use my “bitch powers” either even if i work for the post office because we were specifically instructed not to deliver it until tomorrow. she was hoping that i could get it for her earlier but it is one of those things that i can’t possibly do or i get fired.

  4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) — Noemi and I Made History! : The D Spot says:

[...] Noemi and I made history, and so did our daughters Monica and Marielle (Jane, did you?). We were among the first in the world to get copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7), on opening day—12 o’clock midnight in UK (7 am Manila time). Oh yes, there is a story behind this. [...]

  5. Noemi says:

@Belle- aww it saves her the trouble of lining up at an ungodly hour at the bookstore. I heard it’s cheaper too. $17.00 at Amazon? We got ours at roughly $28.00

  6. chateau says:

Stage mothers to the rescue! hahaha. Your post and Dine’s made me smile. What mothers would do for their kids, no? I’m sure your girls will forever remember that day, and are real proud to have moms like you.
    Have a great weekend!

  7. raqgold says:

it made me smile reading of your stage mom adventures! i guess am going to be one stage mom too in the near future. my pre ordered copy of the book is yet to arrive (the cost was 28.80 euro and now i looked into amazon the price is down to 18.00 euro — arrgh!)

  8. fruityoaty says:

You waited so early in the morning? Now, that’s what I call love for your children, hehe.

Oh, I didn’t realize until now that Marielle is your daughter. I’ve been reading her blog now for the last 2 weeks.

  9. julie says:

I have mine too Noemi. Got it around 10:30am during a vacant sked with my students! :D

Would start to read tonight so that I will be able to read without distractions.

    have a great weekend!

  10. Aileen Apolo says:

If not for my friend dragging me out, I would’ve just gotten it on another day LOL. I got my book, but just slept the rest of the day . Miguel was quite happy though :)

  11. Jane says:

One question, Noemi. How can you and Dine look so glamorous at that ungodly hour of the morning? :-)

I am sure the 2 M’s won’t forget the gesture of their Moms. Never mind if you have not read a single HP book….yet.

  12. Noemi says:

@chateau- I remember my dad who was 50 years old then (my mom died already) and he climbed to the rooftop of a house to take an aerial photo of his hometown which my sister needed for a project. What parents do out of love. Not limited to moms.

@raqgold- yes one day, we will be stage moms at any stage of our daughter’s lives

@fruityoaty- oh really. i thought M often linked me

@Julie- were you able to reserve ? or just walked in

@aileen- well the waking up was worth it if it made Miguel happy

@Jane- glamorous? hehe must be mom’s glow.

  13. Rach says:

I think you and Dine are really cool moms! I still have to get my copy. Happy reading!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

[...] I usually do not welcome any breaks in my schedule. Like if I have a 7-8am and 8-9am students but no 9-10am student. I am not happy about the idle time I have. Last Saturday, I had a two-hour break which mean I would be really restless. But guess what, I wasn’t because that break was a perfect time for me to go to the nearby National Bookstore to get my Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book. When I got to NBS, much to my chagrin, I can’t find my money in my pocket! Oh! Did I lose it when I rode the tricycle (that’s how near the bookstore is, I could have walk but I wanted to get there as quickly as I can). Drat! Of course, I got back home (no, not ours but MIL’s house) and heaved a sigh of relief when I saw my HP7 money in my wallet. Grabbed the wallet and wen back. Singing a happy tune and smiling a lot. Now, if only I can find the time to read my book… Here is what they have to say: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by Dine Racoma  Harry Potter dragged me out of bed by Aileen Apollo Yes We waited Till 12 Midnight to Buy the Book by Liza  Harry Potter Book 7 Finally Released by Noemi Dado  Our Harry Potter Day by Jane  What Does Harry Potter Have that I Don’t? by MarcVill  [...]

    Hi Ms. Noemi,

Could I use some of the photos posted here for my blog post about Deathly Hallows? Hoping for your reply. Thank you in advance.

    Jeric :)

  17. Noemi says:

@jeric- just don’t hyperlink to my server. download the photos and upload to your gallery. Credit is also appreciated :)

  18. Jeric says:

    Thanks again!

  19. Marcvill says:

I got Gail’s reserved Harry Potter Book 7 at National Bookstore in Eastwood. Wala masydong tao unlike in Katipunan branch. Nothing beats the “bitchy powers” of Mommy Noemi!! Hehe!I observed that Gail is starting to develop hers too!

    Nice outing :-)
It was super crazy over here. Thankfully I don’t live within central London. Hubby didn’t have to queue for very long at our local store.

What are you going to do with the box?
