Healthy Apologies Part 2

Alan Ocab, the father of Carl Ocab and I met for coffee this afternoon . We met up because a written apology is not enough to clarify any misunderstanding brought about by my Ethical Blogging entry. The meet intended to clear the air and release painful feelings, if any.

During coffee, I told him “Now is the time to be angry at me . It’s okay to be angry at me.” I cannot presume all is fine and dandy just because we met up for coffee. Or that he smiled at me .

I allowed him to express his feelings while he listened with earnest to the rationale of my entry.

I am not going to discuss the details because both of us felt it is not necessary anymore. Abe and Annalyn in her Blog-O-Rama column clarified a lot already. To make the long story short:

  1. I apologized for any hurt feelings that arose from the entry and comments.
  2. My apology does not mean that I withdrew my stand. I took an individual stand on an ethical issue, not asking or expecting others to back me up. If they did, well and good. If not, that does not change my initial position. Alan understood and respects me for it.
  3. We ended up laughing together when we discovered that we are both Cebuanos. There are many Cebuano quirks that only we understand. Our Cebuano origins kept us both in a light and bubbly mode.

There are lessons learned indeed but I will discuss this one day in another entry. I am not about to start a controversial entry yet. It’s just a relief that Alan doesn’t hold any resentment against me or anyone in the blogosphere.

We ended our coffee with laughter and peace.

It takes a lot of courage and maturity to apologise, let alone have it made known in public. Good for you Noemi. I love your blog’s new look, especially the header.

thanks everyone. Deep in my heart, I know I didn’t do anything wrong yet I knew feelings were hurt. It was best expressed in person where sincerity can be seen. Some things could have been done better which I explained in detail to Alan.

Ay, my dearest sister… YOU have really come a long way. Don’t ever change — because every time you speak your truth, it is a mirror for me. - With love, Lorna
