Fam Pics: The Ceramic Fondue Pot

ceramic fondueFor the month of September, the theme for the Pinoy Moms Network Fam Pics is Potted (anything in a pot). My entry is about my Ceramic Fondue Pot. I gave it as a Christmas present last year to my husband since he is such a cheese lover. The first time I encountered Cheese Fondue was at a Swiss restaurant in Lucerne. While my sister and I dipped and swirled our bread into the cheese in the pot, a group of yodellers went a yodelling in the background. For me the yodelling sounded like nonsense but I guess it was used as a method of communication between mountain peaks, and later became a part of the traditional music of the region.

Tonight called for the Cheese Fondue pot again since it’s Marielle’s 20th birthday and she’s just as crazy over cheese.

I forgot to buy veggies , grapes and other fruits. I just had the bread. You will have to excuse the lapse in the ingredients. I have not been feeling well the past 2 days. Still the cheese tasted so good with the french battard.

Instead of yodelling, we all sang a “Happy Birthday” to Marielle.

If you like to make some Cheese Fondue, here is a fondue recipe shared by Felix Guggenheim of Swiss Deli :

1/2 pound of Emmetal Cheese (often referred to as Swiss Cheese, the one with the holes)
1/2 pound of Gruyere Cheese
1 tablespoon of corn starch
1 Garlic Clove
1 cup of dry White Wine
Pepper, Paprika, Nutmeg
1 kg White Bread cut in cubes

Rub the inside of the ceramic fondue pot with the garlic, then discard. Over medium heat melt cubed cheese in the fondue pot. Once it is all melted add strach and steer for another 2 minutes. Then add white wine and seasoning to taste (a little goes a long way). Serve with chunks of bread. Spear with fondue forks or wooden skewers, dip, swirl and enjoy!

Have dill pickles and silver onions on the side. I also add some fresh gound pepper on my cube while waiting for it to cool down.

@Mitch- Oo nga. Nice ano

@Gail- if you are feeling lazy, there is a premade Cheese Fondue sold at Swiss Deli at the Pioneer St. It costs around 288 pesos. You just heat and voila…Cheese fondue. But if you’re feeling experimental…try that recipe above.

I love fondue but we don’t have our own fondue set at home. It must be nice to have your own for special occasions like this. Happy Birthday again to Marielle. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

This looks delicious. I’m not a huge fan of cheese but I cannot resist a good cheese fondue. I like using day-old bread. Yun medyo matigas na tapos when you toast it nagiging almost hollow and crunchy.

Naku, my eldest daughter would love this. She is a cheese fan!! Can you believe it? She’s a 4-year old with a gourmand’s tongue. Blue, raclette, and all those stinky cheeses….she loves!! She will stand in front of a cheese platter at a hotel’s buffet and ogle and beg to taste it all. I’ll show her this post to make her drool :)

Great post, Noemi!!

@Rowena- not sure if they sell fondue sets at Swiss Deli. The ready made cheese fondue is available though

@Rach,lady cess- See the last portion of my entry for the contact numbers

@kongkong- wow you should get a fondue set for your little girl. Swiss Deli has lots of affordable cheeses

@feng- Fondue sets can be bought at Gourdo’s but the price range starts at 2000 pesos or as much as 4500 pesos since it is made of cast iron.

I bought mine from Crazy Choco/Pot Dog outlet. It used to cost 1,500 pesos but I am not sure how much it costs now. Here is the contact info (contact Lynn and mention my name )

yummy! i love fondues, all kinds. i have a fondue set, but since i live in the burgundy area, we’re more of fondue bourguignonne at home. instead of cheese, we put red wine to cook beef.. or pre-mixed oil.

but cheese fondue is always a treat!
