Just looking at the images of monks marching against the vicious military junta in Myanmar, joined by crowds of civilian sympathizers, brings back memories of Philippine-style People Power. It raises hope that perhaps Burmese democracy may have a chance. Let’s help Free Burma by joining the Support Burma: International Bloggers’ Day. How can you help?

Here is how to take part in today’s (October 4) action.

1. Publish a posting (Bulletin Board, Forum, Blog, Social Network, Static Website…) on the 4th of October with the header: “Free Burma!”

2. If possible Tag it with “Free Burma”

3. Choose a graphic from here:

4. Link to www.free-burma.org there your readers will find some informations about the campaign and Burma and a participant list which you can join.

5. Write a Text or anything about burma if you like.

International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“.

Here, we are coordinating a effort of these bloggers and webmasters. The links in the german section of this paragraph show how the idea came into being.

The ASEAN needs to come up with a specific plan of action to support these Burmese freedom fighters, aside from the standard ineffective denunciations. With the help of the international community, the financial havoc can be tightened against the Yangon regime by going after their bank accounts in Singapore and elsewhere. The U.S. and European Union should immediately impose immediate and tougher trade sanctions. The junta should realize that its days are numbered and the rising tide of democracy cannot be withstood. Many more precious lives would be lost and the black curtain over Myanmar will stay for quite a long time.
