Holy Rosary Podcast
The blue rosary in the photo belongs to Luijoe. A month before he died, he placed it lovingly on the rear view mirror of my car so mama, you will always be protected. Little did he know that he would be in heaven a month later, watching over me and the rest of the family. The Holy Rosary played an important part in my son’s life. My heart often tugs at the memory of my son chastising me for not saying my regular prayers. One night, he pulled me over to our bed because he wanted to pray the Rosary. This lazy mother begged off saying “I don’t feel like it…it’s too long to pray”. That memory often brings me tears of regret that I wasn’t supportive enough of my son’s staunch faith in the Holy Rosary. I should have just prayed along with Luijoe even if I didn’t feel like it. In the eulogy given by Luijoe’s pre-school teacher, she talks of Luijoe as he prayed the rosary:
One time I assigned him to lead the rosary. He was murmuring. One of his classmates told him to speak louder. So loudly but seriously with a big voice he uttered the prayers. At the end of the rosary, all of his classmates clapped their hands. Then, he shouted innocently,”This is not a program..This is a prayer!”
Tears again well my eyes whenever I read this part of the eulogy. My beautiful son…so innocent, spiritual and devout, taken away too soon from me.
I am not a devout Catholic. I don’t believe in reciting rote prayers like the novena except for the “Our Father”. I still don’t get the meaning of the rote recitation of the Holy Rosary. I pray from within my heart knowing the Holy Spirit lives in me. I respect other Catholics for being true to their faith so when Jun Asis requested me to promote the The Holy Rosary Podcast, I gave my wholehearted support.
Fr. Stephen Cuyos, MSC and Jun Asis collaborated to record (do a podcast of) the rosary in Tagalog and posted it online so anybody can download it for free. Their aim is to get more people to pray the rosary, specifically in Tagalog (though any language would be fine as long as the devotion is practiced.). October is the month of the Holy Rosary and they figured that this would be a timely resource for anybody who would like to pray/know Ang Santo Rosaryo. Wouldn’t it be great if mp3 players contained these files too – praying while commuting or waiting? How about the Filipinos abroad who would like to teach their kids Filipino prayers? Or maybe some parish or organization would need assistance to teach praying the rosary?

here in the US i used to join the ist saturday of every month to pray the 2000 holy rosary which means 2000 hail mary’s which will take the whole day and we pray it kneeling down and if there are oldies then they sit while praying the rosary. The leader of the rosary has to say the favor aloud. this is very effective if your favor is universal not individual. i would like to know if this is done in the phil? it is like a once a year devotion to families who sponsor the occasion.

i used to devotedly say the rosary everyday, without fail — sadly, i dont get to do this now; i do a short cut version nightly, though. i would love to introduce this to my kids soon. i remember doing this october rosary month during my high school years in a Catholic school. oh, a rosary hangs in our car’s rearview mirror, requested by my little MC a few months ago.

In the Phils. aside from praying the holy rosary everyday, during the month of October, we try to finish the four mysteries of the rosary with greater devotion by giving detailed attention to how it is meditated & spoken. Marian devotees make it a point to go on pilgrimage in different shrines all over the country most popularly in Lipa, Laguna at the Mt. Carmel Convent where the miracle of the shower of petals happened. In our village, Jesus the Divine Healer Parish, we have the first Saturday dawn procession in honor of Mama Mary during which the rosary is recited while going around the church park. Every September 8, Mama Mary’s birthday, the four mysteries of the rosary is prayed with great love. And everyday, before the 6:30 pm mass. As a family, we have always depended on Mama Mary to bring us closer to Jesus because we firmly believe that all the blessings come from Jesus thru Mary who polishes our work & petition before presenting them to her son so that He canNOT say no. To those who find the recitation of the holy rosary boring, this is my prayer—- may the monotony of the rosary wash away the monotony of all our sins. AMEN!!!

This post reminds me to pray the rosary again. I’ve been a devout Catholic before, going to mass everyday, going to confession before the 1st Friday mass, and praying the rosary daily. But it all changed when I got married. Now, I just attend mass on Sundays (but not regularly). I feel so guilty na when my kids would always remind me to go to mass or pray the rosary before we sleep.
