Beheaded But Always Remembered

Breaking News: Mary Jean Lacaba, the Filipina Red Cross Worker Freed.

I don’t feel the same outrage towards the Chip Tsao slur compared to the possibility that the Red Cross workers could get beheaded. Everyday as I watch the news, I feel helpless as threats to their lives escalate. Breaking news is that Mary Jean Lacaba, Filipina Red Cross worker has been released after more than 70 days in captivity. She was found near Indanan town and is now being transported to a trauma treatment center in Jolo. Swiss Andreas Notter and Italian Eugenio Vagni continue to be held hostage by the Al Qaeda linked terrorist organization. The threat to the remaining two Red Cross Workers remains.

I had the misfortune of watching a beheading video and I am still haunted by gory images. Yes, I couldn’t resist clicking the link of the Daniel Pearl Beheading video (Don’t ask me where it is). The beheading process from cutting to the lifting of the head was just too much to watch but the images are there forever etched in my mind. That is why when Dean Jorge Bocobo provided an incomplete list of names of the beheaded, victims of these acts of inhumane illegal detention, kidnap for ransom, torture and murder, I just had to honor their memory. They may have been gone but are not forgotten.

VISAYAN SUMMER STUDENTS
One of the most senseless of the ASG Al Bader Parad’s decapitation sprees–and the most heartbreaking–is the one involving six hapless and totally innocent summer students from the Visayas working on a Sulu road construction gang, and a dried fish vendor who just happened to be taken with them, whose name is however unknown, though the six students were:

ROGER FRANCISCO,
WILNER SANTOS
JELOWIE TEODORO
NONOY AMPOY
TOTO MILAS
DENNIS DE LOS REYES.

UNNAMED DRIED FISH VENDOR

I will never fathom the reasons for these senseless beheading. A senseless tragedy of unspeakable violence.

I can only pray that these inhumane practice will stop.
