See, I brought along my daughter, her friend Nikki and Jane to a Clinique Coffee at Rustans Makati upon the invitation of May, an old friend who is now Clinique Marketing Manager. It’s always fun to check out these skin-care consultations because one can pick up very useful tips. No, I didn’t plan to buy anything that afternoon.

The Clinique Consultant tested their 3-Step Skin care system on my daughter’s right hand while the left hand was left untreated.

When the lady lifted the tape on her left hand, dead skin stuck to the tape while the other tape was completely clear of sediments.

Now, I don’t buy Clinique products for myself. I reserve that for my daughter who gets very bad acne breakouts, partially caused by the cheap cosmetics she used. My sister, who is a dermatologist, recommended that she ditch the Johnson and Johnson’s face powders and use Clinique’s non-comodegenic, 100% fragrance-free pressed powders instead. That’s how it has always been.

Now look what happened?

I ended up buying 3,900 pesos worth of Clinique products and got a Clinique Bonus Pack as extra. All because I got sold by the hand test. I am just making that as an excuse but I really needed a replacement for my facial skin care.

Photo Hunt’s theme for today is YELLOW. Let me introduce you to Kippy Cat once again. You first met him on Mother’s Day and later on during my trip to the USA. Kippy Cat was my son’s favorite yellow and black striped tiger stuffed toy when he was a young boy. He is also my travel mascot.

I showed him off to the pet cats of my sister in San Fransciso. Kobe (photo above) lies beside my Kippy Cat.

Oreo, another pet is naturally curious and sniffs at Kippy Cat.

Kippy Cat sits beside Whiskers, my brother’s pet over at his home in Missouri.

I brought Kippy Cat along as I took photos of the pristine blue skies on our way to Missouri’s largest Amish community .

And also in Chicago where Kippy Cat and I enjoyed the cool morning breeze at my sister’s balcony.

Death may have taken away my son but he lives forever in my heart and in my memories. Perhaps he might not have visited the states but I brought along Kippy Cat as my travel mascot.

Photo Hunt’s theme is Furry. Kylee is best suited for this week’s theme. A few days ago, Kylee turned 10 years old (in human years) or 70 years old (in cat years). Lauren is the master of this neurotic Apple Head Siamese Cat. I bought Kylee from a pet shop sometime mid-February 1999. There were two kittens to choose from. Based on what I read, try to play with the kitten to check on the cat’s personality. From the looks of it, the frail-looking Kylee looked as if he was going to die. He looked lifeless but when I held out a piece of string, his eyes perked up and started to paw the string. This is the cat for Lauren. I held Kylee on the top of my palms and petted his furry little Apple Head, “You’re going to be Lauren’s pet”.

This sleek and sassy Siamese cat may now have failing eyesight, and slightly obese but he is so much part of our family. He loves to snuggle in Lauren’s comforter and talks incessantly in that sing-song meowing if he needs to be in her room. I never expected him to live this long, or even outlive my son. My Siamese kitten is now her new playmate. That makes two Siamese cats in our small cozy home.

Life at home is never dull with a sleek and sassy Siamese feline by your side. In fact, it’s a bit like having a built-in entertainment unit in your home – with every day being “show-time” !

The popular song lyrics, “We are Siamese if you please,
We are Siamese if you don’t please” pretty well sums up their outlook on life.

Follow me in twitter @momblogger.Photo Hunt theme is Wide and my photo today is the wide backyard of my brother’s home in Missouri. When I left his home in mid-October, the weather was just cool and lovely. The Autumn colors were so pretty to look at too. It was my first Autumn experience.

But look at it now, two days after Thanksgiving. Everything is covered in snow. I can’t imagine living under those weather conditions. I don’t like the cold climate.

This is a photo of their neighbor’s home, right across their own home. I still remember the cool breeze and pristine blue skies and just being with my youngest brother.

Just a few minutes ago, my brother emailed me that they got hit by an ice storm and ” We are literally covered by 1/2 inch of ice”. This means no work and school.

I hope they are warm and safe despite the ice storm.

Follow me in twitter @momblogger.Photo Hunt’ s Theme today is Metal. The most obvious symbol of the Amish is their horse-drawn buggy which is made of metal.

I took shots of this buggy as my brother and I checked out a harness shop at the Amish/Mennonite Community in Jamesport, Missouri last month. I saw a lot of the Amish and Mennonite people and of course we saw many horse and buggies along the way.

As we left the Harness shop, I quickly took a snap of this Amish man who didn’t seem too happy. I didn’t know he was caught in my shot because all I wanted to take was the photo of the buggy.

I am so fascinated by the Amish and their way of life. Just looking at them made me imagine what it might have been like living in the 1800s. It feels as though one steps back in time when you visit any Amish Community.

I guess I will feel sad because it’ll be some time till I get back to visit him.

Feeling sad every once in a while is quite natural. Maybe you didn’t get something you really wanted. Maybe you miss somebody dearly. Maybe somebody you really like doesn’t want to be friends, and you don’t feel so great about yourself. There are lots of reasons that people feel sadness.

Feeling sad will pass, I know.

I will appreciate the happy moments right now so when the time comes, feeling sad will just be a fleeting moment.

The Muckleshoot Casino at Auburn City, WA, an hour’s drive from Seattle, WA was the venue of a talent show for Filipino-Americans from all over the United States.

I am reunited with Loida Nicolas-Lewis, my case subject for the University of the Philippines (UP) Centennial through a book launch, Iskolar ng Bayan Gives Back, the Enterprising Way. She has a lot of fans among Filipino-Americans here. Someone from Hawaii brought over a special lei for Loida.

What is a talent show without an Elvis look-a-like but wait…as I took this photo, I was horrified to find out that I got “mooned”. Oh the laughter. Filipinos are always fun-loving wherever they are.

There is nothing more beautiful than the smiles of my lovely children. Children are one of life’s most beautiful gift and everyday, I thank God for blessing me with children. So, I often tell my kids this… “Oh, you are God’s gift to me” over and over again as I give them a warm hug and kiss.

One day when Lauren was four years old, I scolded her for not paying attention. She bent her head on her hands and looked up to me, her tears streaming down her beautiful face.

Am I not God’s gift to you?

Whenever I recall that incident, I often kick myself for not being more patient. My beautiful daughter reminds me that God is good and forgiving. Maybe God will forgive me for being an impatient mom.

My other beautiful child is my second daughter. She thinks that she looks like me. Not that it is a bad thing though.

of course, memories of my beautiful 6 year old son will always be in my heart.
