Nintendo Wii Games are Fun

wii_and_bloggers.jpgIf I didn’t know what the Nintendo Wii Games Console was all about, I’d think Jayvee, AJ, Juned including my daughter are loonies waving their “wands” about in front of my TV set. Jayvee brought along his Nintendo Wii and lots of party games to amuse the bloggers. The gathering was intended to be a podcast event which included the guys behind The Man Blog. The Man bloggers took forever to arrive so the interactive Wii games filled the gap.

I thought of heading off to bed early and leave the young ones without an oldie like me around. To my consternation, I got locked out of my bedroom. Hubby was asleep since 6:00 PM because of a long drive from Baguio the other night. I couldn’t wake him up to open the door so I ended up watching these bloggers as they waved their Wii remote in the air. If I were a kid in today’s day and age, I’d really want to buy one of my own. It was until I saw the interactivity of the Wii sports that I seriously considered getting my own Wii games console. Just watching them play the Wii Sports shows that it is all about getting you off the couch, onto your feet and moving about even if it’s mostly arm and upper body movement. Once can work up quite a sweat easily.

Any exercise is actually good for me, and a daily 30-minute routine at the gym or walking around the village is likely to yield similar results. I like the idea that video gaming, traditionally viewed by its critics as a slothful, character-weakening and addicting activity, can have the opposite effect.

What’s really amazing about the Wii games console is the fun part. Shortly after Lauren’s college friends and the Man bloggers arrived, the podcast was shelved aside in favor of a boxing, tennis and Mario Wii game match. Amidst the peals of laughter, I ended up nodding off for a 2 hour nap only to wake up again and discover that they were still at the Wii.

wii_and_podcasters.jpgOh the podcast taping finally materialized at 12 midnight. For the first time in a long time, I slept at 4:00 am and woke up at noon today. I feel like being brought back in time during my Not-so-wild-young days.

But who says I can’t have fun watching my daughter’s friends (who are also my friends) have fun?

  4. @rach- yeah me too until I witnessed it.

@fritz- I didn’t get to see those punches. Glad you enjoyed as much as I did.

@dexie- I think we had 20 over at home excluding me and Lauren. Too bad I didn’t prepare that much food. I thought we were going to be less than 15

  5. Didn’t know about Wii either until my husband’s 9-year old nephew asked us to buy him Super Paper Mario as our pasalubong for him from our trip. Syempre when I asked the salesclerk at Target sabi ko, “Do you have W-ay-ay?” Kakahiya!! He corrected me naman and said, “Ma’am, it’s called ‘wee’.” At least alam ko na 🙂

  6. Hi Noemi,

Thank you for accommodating Jayvee & his Wii in your home. I’m used to his staying out late nights but not till kingdom come. My worry turned to relief when I found out the next day thru your blog that he spent the evening till dawn with good company in your lovely domain. Thank you again for being there when I cannot be around.

  7. @kongkong- haha how funny you are.

@angelle- You’re welcome, Angelle. I worry my daughter is out late too. that’s why I always encourage my daughter to host parties at home since it’s safer. Even if they have a drink or two, they can linger at home before driving.

  8. Off-topic..guess what, my husband know Butch. I believe they have worked together on some cases in the past. If I’m not mistaken, the company he is with still uses Butch’s firm for some labor cases. It was a coincidence lang kasi my Tita in the U.S. mentioned to us that she was a follower of your blog and we just got to talk about it. I made yabang that I knew you and my husband goes, “Is she the wife of Butch?”. Ayon na. Just wanted to let you know 🙂

  9. I wasn’t keen on Wii when it came out because of my RSI problems. Then I watched Kelvin play with his Pinoy friend two weeks ago & I’ve began looking the item up on eBay. My son’s 3-year old & he can actually play the interactive games.

It’s expensive though so I think for now, I will just look and not buy. But for sure, rather than PSPs and XBox I am getting a Wii
    🙂

  10. @kongkong- send my hi to your tita . Haha, small world. Will tell my hubby too.

@auee- yes I am seriously considering the wii because they are coming out with a yoga complete with mat. Now that is very interactive.
