(View enlarged images) After attending mass at the St. Alphonsius Ligouri, we dropped by at “Ponzo’s” for lunch. “Ponzo’s” menu is fusion with a delectable array of pasta, meat , healthy vegetarian dishes. I dread dining out of the comfort of my home. Eating out can ruin my weight management plan however it can be a great bonding time with husband and the girls. My trick is to avoid or minimize the carbohydrates and just eat the protein. The Korean beef stew was quite delicious. I added 3 tablespoons of rice to it though. How can one eat beef stew alone? The kids ate pizza pie as appetizers and ate their chicken parmesano and Inasal Chicken dishes as their main course. The pizza crust was thin, crisp and tasty. Lunch ended at 2:00 PM. Fortunately , I didn’t overstuff myself so I was able to work out in the gym at 3:00 PM. My husband reminded me to be back home by 5:00 PM because of a birthday dinner for his mom at “The Banana Leaf”. OH NO!
(View enlarged images) We arrived at “The Banana Leaf” in the Alabang Center at around 6:00 PM barely 4 hours after lunch. The ocassion seemed like a mini-reunuion with all the cousins, and siblings present. The girls groaned as they saw the dinner buffet table. They are so weight-conscious. Fortunately , I wasn’t full so I was ready for the [tag]dinner[/tag] buffet. I took portions of each dish just so I could taste each one.. It’s what I call portion control. Here is what my plate looked like:
Since I love to eat, I just need to have discipline in portion control. As a diabetic, I can’t afford to overeat or my blood sugar will shoot up and cause my eyes to blur and other side effects.
The conversation turned to the book French Women Don’t Get Fat, The Secret of Eating for Pleasure. French women don’t get fat, but they do eat bread and pastry, drink wine, and regularly enjoy three-course meals. It’s also about lifestyle. The French take time to cook and enjoy their lunch. In the course of their conversation, they slowly eat without getting full. We were doing that exactly during our lunch at “Ponzo’s”. Enjoy the moment.
PS. The above photos were taken using my Canon Powershot A530. I am still trying to get used to it , like taking closeup or macro shots of food. Still learning.

alas… the typical Pinoy eats more when there’s a good conversation going on at the table 😀
that food looks great
you did great noemi. wheww. i’ve been moderately distributing my carbs throughout the day these days. i had to watch my glucose level for 2 weeks, thankfully my Doctor said to just do it 3 times a week now. that 2 weeks were torture coz i really had to cut back on rice. it should be against the law to tell an Asian woman not to eat rice…hehehe.
delish: Sometimes it’s “eat and run” haha. You know how it is “FIESTA” atmosphere.
dexie: I get so fat when I am pregnant. Yes you should watch your glucose level. I got gestational diabetes on my 3rd child . I was 35 years old then. I am so used to cutting carbs now but I treat myself now and then.
thanks for the info on ponzo’s 🙂 haha i didn’t know that was the name of the parish in magallanes.. we always just referred to it as “church in magallanes”
Cris: you’re right. I didn’t know the name of this church until I saw a sign outside the parish center in 1998. Hehe. To think I knew of this church since 1978.
that pix of korean stew and the dishes on the dahon make me drool.
Kleenexlambot: The Korean Stew is really yummy
I admire your discipline Noemi. Ponzo’s does look good. I notice you don’t eat dessert… that’s my weakness. 🙁
Toe: I still fail and I do eat dessert. I get a taste here and there.
