Stress relief with my Siamese cat

Authors like cats because they are such quiet, lovable, wise creatures, and cats like authors for the same reasons. ~Robertson Davies

You probably met my Siamese pet cat, Missy in 2008. Not only did it help lower my blood pressure reading without a need for medication but she has been an affectionate and cuddly cat. I think I got more than I bargained for. Missy is so needy and meows constantly for attention. When I am in the mood, I let her lie on my tummy where both of us just stare at each other. It can be quite relaxing. Her cuteness prompted me to take a quick photo and sharing it on my facebook wall.

Pretty soon, she got attracted to her own photo at my facebook wall. This is when I find her so adorable. Just watching Missy stare at herself gave me that opportunity to just laugh. Missy ended up checking behind the monitor trying to find out who that “cat”could be.

I couldn’t resist taking another photo and posting it once again in my Facebook wall. Missy is captivated and stares for quite some time , checking behind the monitor for that “cat”.

Don’t you think that is cute? I could do a infinity poses but Missy decided to massage my tummy with that purring noise. Haha. I like that. Monica Edwards says ” Purring would seem to be, in her case, an automatic safety valve device for dealing with happiness overflow. ”

Cat lovers know how the paw massage works. Just watching all these crazy antics is helping me de-stress. While techniques like meditation, yoga and writing help reduce stress, owning a pet has many stress relieving and health benefits such as mood-enhancing benefits .

I am amused at Missy’s playful mood. It distracts me from the stressful moments even if just temporary. I believe owning a pet can also lower blood pressure. Missy can be there for me in ways that people can’t. They can offer love and companionship that sometimes humans can’t . Of course , support from family is just as important but sometimes they are not there because of work or other commitments. The power of talking about problems with a good friend who’s also a good listener is always a good idea but, recent research shows that spending time with a pet may be even better.
