I had a long day. At 10:00 AM, I was informed that Unilever pulled out ads in all live game shows in all networks. Excited beyond belief, I was about to tweet when I got another message to hold off announcement until 5:00 PM. Exciting. I tweeted everyone to await positive developments.
Then the bombshell. Unilever made a bold move in addition to its pullout. Unilever Philippines said they will continue to positively influence the media landscape and work on strengthening our long-standing partnership with all TV networks. I think there was a domino effect. Before I could say hello Willie…your days are numbered… Cebuana Lhuillier, CDO, Nutri-Asia followed suit. Yes, a bandwagon effect.
By 6:30, while attending a birthday celebration with college classmates I was tipped off to turn on Willing Willie. He had an important announcement. The show took forever to end. Finally at 9:30, he delivers this dramatic spiel. See video below :

It’s very obvious when someone does something really good he or she gets bash for doing so. It’s a reality that you cannot always please everyone. It’s easy to blame a person for an incident and make a big fuss on the matter but when the same incident is being done by others, detractors will simply ignore because you are biased or simply hate the person who is really good on what he does. FACE IT PEOPLE, the more you bash the person, the more he become popular in the long run whether you like it or not. Willie for me has become a Howard Stern of the Philippines because people will always give attention to what he does whether you like it or not. To be brutally frank, these very bloggers and twitter peeps who use this very issue as means to “drive internet traffic” on their respective sites or accounts.
You have got to love the way he’s spinning it that he’s going to reflect whether or not to return to the industry. Most likely people want to reflect on whether they want him in it!
What really irritates me is that the people he called out as “walang ginawa para sa mahirap” are the ones who are active in charities and communities…the only difference is that they don’t announce their humanitarian activities to the entire world.
“Ayaw ko na sanang banggitin ang kalahating milyon.” Wow. Ayaw mo nga banggitin, Willie. We totally believe you.
So what happened? Is he back, or is the show tapos na?
