When we initially researched and wrote this article, Sears offered a military discount via Veterans Advantage.
If you visit this page on the Veterans Advantage website, it makes no mention of a discount.
Additionally, when you click on the button that says ‘Yes, Redeem My Offer’, you get this:
It’s pretty clear that whatever military discount Sears offered through Veterans Advantage has either expired, or has been paused.
So, does Sears have a military discount or not?
OMK dug a little deeper, and it appears that they in fact DO have a military discount.
As per their website:
We provide the following discounts to military personnel*:
- Sears offers 20% off regular price merchandise and an additional 5% off sales prices throughout the tools/hardware and lawn & garden departments** everyday!
- *With valid military ID **Excludes grills and patio furniture and d©cor
- Plus, Sears has occasional DOUBLE DISCOUNT events in the tools department.
- SYW Max free for 6 months and 10% back in points
- Automotive 7% off all services and products
So as you can see, it’s not your typical discount. You can only redeem this in stores, and be sure to bring your military ID to verify your service!

You can stop by one week and receive a special offer that wasn’t available the week before.
As a result, it is a good idea to visit your local Sears often if you have one in the area.

Joining Veterans Advantage For The Sears Military Discount
Veterans Advantage has a trademark of “respect, recognition, and rewards” for the service members and veterans it supports.
The organization was established in 2000, by a Vietnam veteran and his wife.
The purpose of the program was to create an exclusive means for military personnel and their families to receive special offers at hundreds of retailers and brands.
Additionally, Veterans Advantage created its own means for providing quick and authentic verification for companies that request identification before offering a military discount.
The ID car is referred to as the VetRewards card. It is considered the #1 secure military ID for proving service dates.
Sears has been a partner with Veterans Advantage since 2009, and the specific military discount details are as follows:
- $5 Off Purchases of $50 or more
- $35 Off Purchases of $300 or more
This can be redeemed by signing up for a Veterans Advantage membership, which we talk about below.

Sears has connected with Rebuilding Together for a special joint partnership.
The non-profit is dedicated to helping military families facing hardship.
The program has a mission to repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives. The vision is to establish safe homes in welcoming communities.
Rebuilding Together has nearly 100,000 volunteers across the United States. It conducts about 10,000 rebuilding projects each year.

Sears is also a recipient of the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
The honor acknowledges companies that extend outstanding support to employees who serve in the National Guard.

Can I get a Sears military discount when I purchase a product or service in-store?
Sears does not advertise a specific military discount that is offered in-store. It doesn’t hurt to ask the clerk when you go to checkout the items.
We have noticed some cashiers are willing to provide you with a discount, while others stick more to company policy.
They may need an override from a manger.
So it is not something you can count on yet the way we look at it there is no problem with at least asking.
You never know what they might do for you!
How much does it cost to join Veterans Advantage?
Veterans Advantage can get you access to countless exclusive offers for military personnel, families, and veterans.
You do need to pay for a membership.
Veterans Advantage has different plans:
- A 30-day trial for $4.95.
- $9.99 p/ month.
- $59.95 f/ 12 months ($4.99 p/ month).
The long-term plan is the best value.
However, if you are new to Veterans Advantage you may just decide to enroll in the 30-day trial plan to determine if you will use the special savings enough to make the membership worthwhile.
You can cancel at any time during the 30-day trial.
Make sure you mark the trial date deadline on a calendar.
After 30 days the trial automatically upgrades to the 12-month, $59.95 plan.
So unless you want to don’t want to get automatically billed for $60 on a credit card you provide you’ll want to cancel before then.
