Photo Hunters theme this week is Smelly. I chose our family’s Shoe Cabinet which is nestled in the far corner of the second floor. Some of the shoes in there are smelly whenever I pass by. It’s one reason I place a deodorizer inside the cabinet. I know when it’s time to replace the deodorizer when I smell the stink again. The solution really is to eliminate the shoe odor from the source. Other than deodorizer, there are other ways of eliminating shoe odors:
1. Put baking soda inside the shoes and shake to cover most of the inside of the shoes. Leave overnight, and shake out before wearing again.
2. Never wear a pair of shoes two days in a row, let them dry out thoroughly (even if they don’t seem wet) before you wear them again.
3. When your shoes get extremely wet, crunch up newspaper and push it inside your shoes. This will force your shoes open and absorb the water from the leather. You may need to change the paper; then take it out and allow the shoe to dry.
4. Apply foot powder specially designed for foot odor problems to feet and/or shoes daily.
Any more tips on how to remove shoe odor?
Good photograph and very informative. I’ll have to try some of those tips, ha. Happy weekend.
great tips.. i always(almost) do #2 .. but the newspaper is something new..thanks
happy weekend
How big is your family ? That’s a lot of shoes in the shoes cabinet 😀 We only have one for a family of four 😀 Thanks for the informative post. will definitely need to try tip #3 as it rains pretty often around here
@changeiam- we’re a family of 4 too. My family members just love having shoes. I don’t own a lot of pairs myself.
Hi Noemi. I like your shoe cabinets. It’s nice that you have several of them in one corner of the house. Very organized. Thanks for all the helpful tips. I bought this “rocks” (sorry forgot what they are called) at the mall before and placed them inside our shoe cabinet. They are supposed to absorb damp and odor. They seem to work so far.
My house kitchen cabinet also smelly~
I have done my smelly post.

hi Noemi,
i like your shoes cabinet. beautiful! i use the kind that hangs from the rack in the closet, which can hold 10 pair of shoes.
on the contrary: i wear my black uniform shoes every single day for the last 4 months but i don’t smell a thing. is it because i live in a drier climate?
lol..ok, I’ve never seen such a large shoe cabinet! and as far as smelly shoes, I think you covered all the possibilites in your little article! Great post! My post is up, please come and visit

wow..nice shoe cabinet.. looks really imeldific…ahehehe =)
it would also be good to put each pair of shoes in a shoe box, minimizing the odor furthermore…

The shoes cabinet, yes, how familiar 😉
Drop by and see my “smelly blog” today if you have time.
Shoes can certainly be smelly. Both of my humans are marathon runners, so after a long run, their shoes can be very smelly.
My smelly photo.
Wow, that’s a lot of shoes! Those are very nice cabinets though. Great post for ‘smelly’.
My tip for avoiding shoe odor?

Oh, I’m jealous of your shoe cabinet. It’s so big! My tip is I never put my shoes near my husband’s shoes. 😉

hi, i really like your shoe cabinet!!!! how much for each cabinet that fits 50 pairs??? thanks!
i was searching for shoe cabinets and i cane across your post. i like your cabinet – where’d you get it? and great tips too!
Hah. I wear my black converse high tops for weeks sometimes and they never smell. Just wear a fresh pair of socks everyday and wash those feet good in the shower with soap.
Finally! A rather decent-looking and functional shoe cabinet. I’m getting one tomorrow. Thanks!
