It was 5:00 AM when Lauren knocked on our room . The loud noise outside her window woke her up almost the same time as the brownout hit our home. “Don’t worry the MERALCO wires have a ground wire now” I told her to sleep with us if she was still scared with the noise. Thinking it was just the rattling roof in our neighbor’s house, I didn’t think much of it. It was still too dark to investigate.
At around 9:00 AM, we discovered the remnants of a roof lying a few meters away from our house , narrowly missing my daughters’ bedroom window. The roof came from the fourth floor of this ongoing construction across our home then , probably flew off and landed right smack along some cables and electric wires in the house beside us. No wonder we have no Globelines broadband and Skycable connection.
Apparently, our neighbor was unaware that it was Typhoon signal No. 3 and didn’t secure the construction materials. Besides we only discovered at around 11:00 PM that Typhoon Frank (international codename: Fengshen) would hit Metro Manila at 5:00 AM today. By 11:00 PM, the construction workers already left.
This is our first typhoon experience in our new home and naturally I was worried. Typhoon Milenyo struck our old home with some damage in our garden and front portion of our home. It took us days to clean up the damage. (View photos of the cleanup)
I haven’t toured around the neighborhood to survey and take photos on the damage of Typhoon Frank. Photos on the gmanews.tv site shows flooded streets in Manila.

How are all of you in Metro Manila? Hope you are all safe!
I didn’t know there was a signal no. 3 either. Glad you are all safe.
thanks to plurk, I found out about the signal no. 3.
Oh crap. Glad to hear nobody was hurt.

I heard also rattling in our roof. I stood up at 4 am to find two sons by the “vacant lot” (no longer so vacant as it it used for storage of construction materials and parking) securing some materials (similar to the picture you posted) that workers left na nakatiwangwang. Baka daw may tamaang kotseng nakapark or fly loose and create damage. That is what your neighbors should have done. So irresponsible. They should have kept track of weather reports. 🙁

@ade – yes glad no one was hurt. I’ve heard horror stories of GI sheets going through windows.
@annamanila- Grabe nga. I think it’s just laziness. Good your sons were responsible enough to secure these potentially dangerours materials.

i wonder, would insurance cover the damages done by that flying roof? i find it weird that the typhoon warning came too late for the construction people to secure their area of work; but would they have done the responsible way of securing those things if they had known it earlier? we wouldnt know the answer anymore, am glad that you are okay though.

Glad to hear that you and your family are safe and no great damage in your house…I see typhoon only on television. It never hapenned in my city.
it is really scary, we have no power in our area, i feel so detached to the world, i am wondering what is happening outside…and my cellphone almost lowbat na that time….nag day off pa naman ang aking angel that time…talagang akap ko po ang 2 kids ko nung kasagsagan ng bagyo kasi nagliliparan na yung bubong sa paligid at madilim pa.
i’m glad that your family is OK
Hi! I’m happy that you’re family is safe, my children said that the water enter their house because of the open window, hope everything is back to normal now. best regards, cool mom an2nette

I usually go to sleep at around 4am, when the typhoon hit manila I was already making my way to bed, i was looking forward to a sweet slumber because it was cold unlike the past days before that, but i was up each hour because of the ratting roofs of the neighbors. I learned when i finally woke up (which is about 1 in the afternoon), that part of my grandparent’s roof was tore up. My uncle who at the moment is the only one who lives there had to sleep downstairs, because it was his room’s roof that got tore up. I work at Rockwell and was totally bummed of the thought of going to that day, because it won’t stop raining, but i had to anyway. blahs.. I’ve been reading your blog for quite sometime now, and I have to say I really enjoy it. Nice!
