I am deeply honored to be recognized as one of the 2024 Artists of the Year by 34 Gallery! Being included among such an incredible group of talented artists is a truly humbling experience. This recognition reaffirms my belief in the transformative power of art to foster connection, inspire healing, and promote positive change in how we perceive and address mental health.

A heartfelt thank you to 34 Gallery and to everyone who has supported my journey. Your encouragement and belief in my work mean the world to me.

This award has prompted me to reflect on the deeply personal stories that inspire my pieces:

“Always With Me”

This piece emerged from the most devastating moment of my life — the loss of my precious six-year-old son 24 years ago. Grief consumed me, plunging me into profound depression and isolation. But one night, I felt a divine intervention, a message from my son urging me to heal and be present for my family. This comforting belief that he had become my guardian angel gave me the strength to begin the journey toward recovery.

I channeled this journey into the blog aboutmyrecovery.com, where I shared my experiences and connected with others who understood my pain. Through this platform, I discovered a community of support and empathy. “Always With Me” embodies this journey — the enduring love for my son, the pain of loss, and the hope that comes from connection and healing.

“Dreamscape Serenity”

Prioritizing sleep has been a cornerstone of my mental well-being. By dedicating 7-8 hours each night to rest, I’ve regained focus, energy, and a renewed sense of purpose. “Dreamscape Serenity” captures this commitment to self-care and the peace that comes with nurturing our mental and physical health. It serves as a visual reminder of the vitality of rest in our daily lives.

“Rediscovering Life Outside Digital Boundaries”

In a world dominated by digital interactions, it’s easy to get caught up in endless scrolling and social media comparisons. This piece explores the mental health benefits of taking intentional breaks from these platforms. Stepping away allows us to reduce negativity, manage anxiety, and foster meaningful real-life connections. “Rediscovering Life Outside Digital Boundaries” encourages viewers to seek balance and prioritize their well-being in an increasingly connected world.

“Beyond the Surface”

This piece delves into the complexities of self-image and self-acceptance. The fragmented reflection symbolizes vulnerability and the acknowledgment that we are all works in progress. It’s a gentle reminder that it’s okay to have imperfect days. “Beyond the Surface” invites viewers to embrace their authenticity and find beauty in their imperfections.

As I look ahead, I’m filled with gratitude and inspiration. This recognition fuels my passion to continue creating art that sparks meaningful conversations and fosters understanding around mental health. Through my work, I hope to encourage healing, self-discovery, and the celebration of strength. Thank you for being part of this journey.

34 Gallery & SDG 3.4
SimukaAfrica.org created The 34 Gallery as a UN SDG 3.4 Mental Health Initiative to highlight the importance of global mental health. By utilizing the Arts to cultivate self care, self-esteem, & self-awareness, we seek to lower the suicide rate for the 85% of the global population without access to mental health care.

I’m incredibly humbled and thrilled to announce that four of my AI artworks will be exhibited this May. Three will grace physical galleries in Philadelphia, Las Vegas and in an international forum. One takes flight into space. I’m also honored that one piece will be published in Mint Magazine. This is a testament to the growing acceptance and appreciation of AI-generated art, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity.

 

May 1, 2024 – “Algorithm of Life” at the Colonna Contemporary Gallery in Pennsylvania (USA)

10 artworks were selected for this Open Call at The Hug. Colonna Contemporary were looking for 10 artists experimenting with AI in their practice to be featured monthly as part of their emerging voices series. The theme for this May collection was Genesis Reimagined: Crafting a New World with AI. 

Transport yourself to a realm where imagination takes the helm, and AI becomes the ultimate creator. “Genesis Reimagined: Crafting a New World with AI” invites emerging AI artists to envision and depict the inception of a world as if they were the creators on day one. Embrace the role of a digital deity, shaping landscapes, creatures, and atmospheres through the transformative lens of AI.

 

Aside from the exhibit at the  Colonna Contemporary Gallery in Pennsylvania (USA), it will also be featured at  Colonna Contemporary OnCyber Gallery, and  minted at Foundation.

May 3, 2024- “Loki’s Market Mayhem”, at the JRNY Gallery, Las Vegas, Nevada

Following an open call, The Hug curated a collection of work by six artists for display at JRNY Gallery’s First Friday event on May 3, 2024. First Friday is a vibrant celebration of local culture, drawing thousands every month! As a selected artist, my work will shine alongside renowned artists in this bustling location. JRNY Gallery proudly spotlights dozens of NFT projects, showcasing the creativity and innovation of digital art. From stunning digital paintings to captivating animations, each monitor offers a unique journey. This cultural hub unlocks the world of digital art, connecting artists and admirers.

May’s theme is: Mythical Awakenings so I chose Loki.

Revisit ancient myths and legends, but with a twist for the modern eye. Bring to life stories of gods, monsters, and heroes through a contemporary lens. How would these mythical beings navigate the world today? Unleash your creativity to redefine the age-old tales.

In my art “Loki’s Market Mayhem”, my description is :”In a cunning disguise as a Wall Street broker, the mischievous Loki orchestrates chaos in the stock markets. With a sly grin and a flick of his wrist, he sends stocks soaring and crashing, leaving traders bewildered. A master of deception, Loki revels in the pandemonium he creates, all while maintaining the facade of a savvy financier.”

May 16 till end of May, “The Mind Blooms” at an international forum (awaiting announcement of curator)

 

This surreal artwork explores the transformative power of the mind. The woman, adorned with blooming flowers, represents the blossoming of inner strength and healing. The psychedelic dreamscape symbolizes the limitless potential of the subconscious, while the moonlight signifies guidance during periods of darkness.

I will update the venue once I get the go-signal from the Curator.

May 2024- , Weightless Journey, in Space, Date to be announced.

120 winners were selected to go to space. Launch of the video date to be announced soon. Curation were by @Oshi_Gallery, @DigitalArtFair and @TurboToadToken.

One of the artworks you can bid on is my own piece, “Serenade in Blue.” It’s a painting of a mysterious lady with a background that’s inspired by the sea and landscapes of Lahaina. What’s really cool is that when you win a painting, you also get a special digital version called an NFT. This means you’re the only person who owns this exact painting, both in the real world and online. And this won’t change – no more copies will be made.

Every penny from this auction will go to the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation, which means you’re helping Lahaina’s kids every time you place a bid.

Remember, the online auction finishes up on November 30th at 5:00 pm. While these bids don’t count for a tax deduction, they do get you a great piece of art and help out a good cause.
