Krispy Kreme Party

krispy Kreme
Surrounded by media celebrities , Lauren and M find themselves posing like celebrities themselves.

Early this evening, a few bloggers attended the Krispy Kreme Coffee and Doughnut VIP Party. How could I resist doughnuts. The girls tagged along with me to check out the new branch over at Greenhills which is scheduled to open this thursday, June 28.

Dinner and Conversation with the Band of Bloggers

birthday party
I still remember the dinner parties at our house. They were fun and less costly. But, now it seems to be a thing of the past.Juned

It doesn’t have to be that way, Juned. Though technology and urbanization indeed has made things so much more convenient for us, dinners and great conversation should never be a thing of the past. I know it is a bit more laborious to prepare food instead of hiring a caterer. The joy and the fulfillment of doing it out of love makes up for all the work. It’s also one reason I refused my husband’s suggestion to host my birthday party at a fancy restaurant or in a hotel’s banquet hall.

A Birthday Gift

The day after my birthday, Myrna aka Annamanila treated me out to dinner along with Dine alias Sexy Mom and Chato alias Chateau. (oops correction , it was a treat from all of them)

birthday celebration

As some might know, AnnaManila used to be a former colleague from my last employment which was err…20 years ago, the week that I was about to deliver M. Imagine I haven’t seen her for almost 20 years and we got reunited through my blog. We were not exactly best of friends though. In fact, I feel closer to AnnaManila now that she is a blogger like me. She used to edit my boring research work to pieces and made them exciting to readers. Of course I loved the end-result. I didn’t recognize my writing. Haha.

birthday
What is truly amazing about blogs is the rediscovery of old friendships like Annamanila and developing new friendships like Chato and Dine. You wouldn’t think we just met this year . We laughed and babbled the night away. I really had a blast that friday night.

birthday treat

Oh and look what AnnaManila got for me!

7 Random Facts About The Woman Behind aboutmyrecovery.com

Memes are so cool when one is faced with a “blogger’s block”. Note that I never say I am a writer. Thanks to Dexie, the feisty Momma, I am tagged to list down the 7 Random Facts About The Woman Behind aboutmyrecovery.com that will revolve around fashion, styling, hair, beauty and vanity. So yes, here is everything you need to know about the kikay me :

1. I wore the same hairstyle for twenty years and only sported a short layered cut this year. Thanks to my lovely 2 girls who constantly beg me to drive them to their favorite hair stylist. A favorite hair stylist is from I Love you Store or Hair News, a Korean Hair salon in Ortigas Center. My favorite hair color artist is from Salon de Manila because they make the most flattering highlights.

2. I own only 5 pairs of footwear. If you compare that to my husband’s 50 pairs, he’s really lucky to have married me. (I should show you the shoe cabinets I bought for him). As to the shoe style, I prefer to wear 2 inch sandals. I don’t like to wear flats or havianas because I feel short.

3. I own a lot of handbags in various colors but I only use one bag colored black till it gets rotten and unusable. Poke me when you notice it’s rotten because I pretend it’s not.

Investing in the Philippine Stock Market

Do you believe in luck and chance especially in financial success? When our only son was born in 1993, our life changed dramatically. My husband and I believed that our son was our lucky charm which brought us good fortune and lots of happiness. In fact, among all the kids, Luijoe had the grandest Baptismal celebration and even birthday parties. Our family was indeed blessed. We could not ask for more. When we dabbled in stock trading, I had no knowledge on how the financial markets worked. My husband got a hold of Initial Public Offering (IPO) of large companies in the early 90’s. The booming stock market and rising price indexes drove me to sell when it was high. It was bullish period in the stock market trading.

And how did I determine the time to sell?

I rubbed Luijoe’s hair like one would rub Aladdin’s magical lamp and I’d whisper to Luijoe ” do you think mama should sell?”

If Luijoe smiled to his right that meant “yes” and the opposite is “No”. What a silly way to sell?

An Interview by Migs Paraz

Here are 5 interview questions from Migs Paraz which is actually a tagged post.

1. There is a lot to learn from people in their 40’s and above. How do we get them to blog?

I definitely agree that there is a lot to learn from the 40’s and above. The best way to get them to blog is to expose them to bloggers in our age group. I always thought that blogging was for the 30 and below age group until I came across Connie’s blog. I have been told by 40 something bloggers that they got inspired to start a blog because they came across my blog ( ahem, Annamanila). This question gives me an idea. Maybe I should categorize my blogroll by age group to inspire more people?

2. What opportunities did winning the Philippine Web Awards and the Philippine Blog Awards bring you? (Oh and being one of the Top Pinoy Probloggers as well.)

Winning the award brought hits and gave me more visitors. It widened the scope of my readership and advocacy. Then, I get invited to PR events or help out with blog activities. Most importantly, I am loving the fact that my circle of friends widened in all age groups. As a problogger, the opportunity to socialize and venture out new things in the blogosphere and even in new media enable me to produce more content for my blog. More content produced enhance my earnings especially in Google Adsense and Text Link Ads.

Are You Crazy?

We are all crazy in our little funky way. Let’s see…

Maybe that verbally abusive customer spewing cuss words has some sort of bipolar disorder.

Concerned over a friend who can’t seem to keep a relationship? Shrinks say it’s some kind of borderline personality disorder.

What about that stark, raving mad driver that overtook your vehicle the other gave and gave you a dirty finger? Ooh road rage! And what do you know? It’s called “Road Rage Disorder” or intermittent explosive disorder.

Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs

Here is my list of 10 blogs that are making an impact to its readers in 2007. These are blogs that started anytime from August 1, 2006 to the present and are gradually gaining a considerable amount of readership and influence. Thanks to Janette Toral for pioneering this writing project.

Let me just tell you that my criteria is based on blogs with an advocacy and /or my relationship with these bloggers. In no particular order, here they are (drum rolls)

1. Pinoy Moms Network– Okay I am biased . This is a network that Connie and I founded together sometime February 2006. The advocacy is obvious. It is us, mothers, who determine what the future generations will be. The saying that ““the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world” has never been more true. Moms who have joined our network is reaching the 100 mark.

2. Grief is a Journey is Cathy ‘s advocacy on grief education and recovery particularly GriefShare. Griefshare is a special seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. Together with her husband, Cathy launched Grief Share at the Greenhills Christian Fellowship in Ortigas sometime last year and seminars are held every saturday. This blog started on October 2006. What a blessing to to those in pain. If GriefShare started in the year 2000, I would have joined it .

3. Pia. Everyone knows her as Senator Pia Cayetano . She is Pia , a family friend, and Tita Pia to my kids. In her blog, she encourages women (men and kids) to start and maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. Running and walking are one of the easiest exercises. All you need is a good pair of shoes, a place to run or walk and ideally a fitness partner to keep you company or keep you motivated, so her blog touts. No wonder she calls it mydailyrace.blogspot.com which she started on March 27, 2007. But we struggle on, putting one foot in front of the other.
